Fluorine Facts.

INTERESTING FLUORINE FACTS:
  • Fluorine is the 13th most abundant element. It is also the MOST reactive element in the periodic table.

  •           Fluorine gets it's name from the latin word fluo, meaning to flow. This is because, until recent times, fluorine compounds were used as a flux, a material that helps molten metal flow.

  •          Fluorine was used in making the first ATOMIC BOMB!  As Uranium Hexafluoride. Strangely enough fluorine is also found in all living things, from plant tissues to animal bones and blood.

  •           Fluorine is found in Polytetrafluoroethylene (also known as teflon) a soft plastic that virtually nothing sticks to. It is used in cookware, as well as, tubes, gaskets, seals, and more. This material is one of the main sources of demand for fluorine.

  •           Fluorine is corrosive enough to be one of the few chemicals to react with a diamond. & fluorine is so REACTIVE it can extract oxygen from water!
